The Promise of Cell Transplant Therapy
The global scientific community has new hope for many chronic conditions that are difficult or impossible to treat with current technology—cell transplant therapies. Many believe that cell transplant therapies are the future of medicine because they may allow physicians to reverse a disease rather than simply manage its effects. Simply put, cell transplant therapies allow scientists to re-grow cells that have been lost or damaged by a particular disease. If scientists can replace the damaged cells with their newly grown equivalents, the disease can, in theory, be reversed. The most publicized application of this concept is in the field of stem cells which may allow researchers to create any type of cell in the human body from a single precursor.
