Beta-Pro: On the Forefront of Diabetes Research

Along with those battling many other conditions, the hope of diabetes patients depends on the future of cell transplant therapies. For more than 20 years, researchers have been working to find a way to re-grow or isolate functional islets and implant them in the body of diabetic patients. To date, there have been several recorded clinical trials of the transplant process in which many patients achieved insulin independence. While these are tremendous steps, the process still faces significant challenges before it will be regularly practiced in the medical setting.

Beta-Pro LLC is among the first companies on the scene to help scientists address these challenges by providing the necessary tools to facilitate the research of others. Beta-Pro provides researchers worldwide with clinical-grade human pancreatic cells and custom cellular and consulting services to aid in the fight to reverse diabetes. In addition to our unique, high-quality products and services, Beta-Pro’s researchers are working to address the challenges facing islet transplantation and diabetes research overall.

This research begins with finding new methods to increase availability of clinical grade islets and decrease the amount of tissue waste from islet isolations. One method we are currently exploring is transdifferentiation of exocrine cells in the pancreas into insulin-producing endocrine cells required for transplant. (Kensinger, et al.). Beta-Pro’s research also focuses on increasing the number of islet cells that survive the transplantation procedures. Through careful research and cutting-edge products, Beta-Pro is leading the charge to overcome the challenges facing islet transplantation and make the dream of insulin independence a reality for diabetes patients.

One thing that is so exciting about our field is that it is always changing—today’s future can quickly become tomorrow’s reality. At Beta-Pro, we are continually assessing the most current research and technologies to ensure that the most cutting-edge technologies and products are at the fingertips of diabetes researchers.
