IIAM Procures Donor Organs for Beta-Pro

Beta-Pro works closely with the International Institute for the Advancement of Medicine (IIAM), one of the largest recovery networks in the world for the acquisition of donated human tissue for research and education. IIAM receives organs and human tissue in accordance with the wishes of donors and their families. The organization is a division of the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), the nation's largest tissue bank. MTF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and inspected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

By offering the option of donation for research and education, IIAM provides an opportunity for a donor to make a significant contribution to society and give family and friends a chance to honor their loved one's memory by improving the quality of life for others. IIAM works with organ procurement organizations, tissue banks, hospitals, hospice programs, funeral directors, medical examiners, and individual donors throughout the United States in offering donation of organs and tissue for research and education.

Only 25 Percent of Harvested Donor Organs are Suitable for Transplantation

Not all organs are suitable for transplantation; in fact, only 25 percent of harvested donor organs meet the criteria for whole organ transplants. IIAM partners with organizations to make sure non-transplantable organs and other tissue from donors help researchers every day find new and innovative ways to treat and cure diabetes and other diseases.

Beta-Pro works with IIAM to leverage this organ surplus for isolation and distribution of insulin-producing, clinical-grade human pancreatic tissue in the hopes of facilitating a cure for diabetes.
